What is fiber?

Fiber is a type of carbohydrates found in plant-based foods that the body actually canot digest and absorb. So instead, it passess through our digestive system fully intact. This provides a range of health benefits as mentioned previously

Benefits of fiber?

  1. Digestive health: Fiber bulks up your stool, which promotes regular bowel movements and prevents constipation. It helps prevent some more serious digestive ailments including divericulosis and hemorrhoids.
  2. Weight management: foods high in fiber content tend to be more satisfying and filling, which helps to control appetite and prevent overeating.
  3. Blood sugar control: As mentioned previously fiber does not break down in the body therefore the sugars in foods like oats, beans and fruits can regulate sugar levels because they have a slow absorption rate of sugar into the bloodstream

All in all, fiber is an essential nutrient that offers many health benefits. It is a nutrient not to be overlooked! If you ensure to hit 25-30 grams of fiber per day to help your body feel your best inside and out.
